Leslie Vowles, PT PATH Registered Therapist and Instructor
Leslie truly loves teaching riding skills to “differently–abled” persons of all ages, and using her skills as a physical therapist to develop dynamic treatment strategies for her therapy clients. She always enjoys learning new skills to share with her students.
Dr. Sally Thigpen PATH Registered Instructor and Psychologist
Sally has a Ph.D. in Psychology and has been a professor at LA Tech, ULM, and LSU. Currently Sally is very busy at her practice in Monroe, but she still takes time out to volunteer as an instructor. She and her daughter have loaned their horse, Mr. T, to HATS for all to enjoy.
Loretta Crow-Seymour PATH Registered Instructor
Loretta travels to Texas and Arkansas to visit other centers, lend assistance, and learn new aspects of therapeutic horsemanship. Although she is frequently battling her own health problems, she is very enthusiastic about sharing her Therapeutic Horsemanship knowledge.
Jessica Harrell PATH Registered Instructor
Jessica attended a training and certification course at a PATH Premier Center in Texas and came back certified and excited! She really enjoys teaching our students and makes her lessons fun for everyone. Jessica is also a LA State Champion barrel racer, and is training her little sister to follow in her foot steps.
Cristi Theriot Website Design and Senior Volunteer
Cristi is our technology guru who keeps the website working and up to date. She has literally been volunteering for HATS since before it was born as a volunteer in the former LA Tech Therapeutic Riding Program and as a Special Olympics Equestrian volunteer. She works hard in the barn to make sure horses are ready on time for lessons and keep Leslie on schedule.
Loree Odom Fundraising, Community Outreach, and Recycling Queen
Loree volunteers as a liason between HATS and the community to increase awareness about HATS and RECYCLING. Her aluminum can recycling efforts have helped to provide the "little extras" that make our horses happy. She really enjoys spending quiet time with the program horses and exherts a calming influence.
Gayle Gerdeman Part Time Barn Manager
Gayle is the primary caregiver to our horses. She also schools lesson horses and advances instructor education. Gayle has been an instructor at her own barn for years and lends her experience to the team.
Volunteers
We couldn't do it without them! They are home makers, retirees, high school and college students, civic organization members, horse enthusiasts, and everything in between. The one thing they all have in common is the desire to help others!
